Real Love

I've been hurt by love

more than a time or two.

So drained emotionally

until I didn't know what to do.

I've been used and abused

more times than I would like to count

trust me, when I say I've known pain

I know what I'm talking about.

I've cried many tears in my day

the hurt rocking my soul

and in my pain where desperation lived

I asked God to make me whole.

Because love is God, and God is love

nothing more precious you see

because it’s with the love of God

that you live until eternity.

I know I've been hurt

and it took me awhile to understand

that it wasn't love that hurt

but my expectation of man.

So I live my life

being happy with me

Yes, I long for true love.

So I've put my heart in the master’s hand

I want my love to come from above.

I do my best to ask

for only what I can give,

I don’t expect to receive

if I can't give it back

That's the only way to live.

So, I look forward to the day

when love and I come face to face

I can imagine the joy I will feel
totally overwhelmed and happy, you see,
because this time love will be real.
